Hello JRCS Scientists,

Hello JRCS Scientists! 

Today, with a great pleasure, we present to you a superb poem by our talented Emma Smith, which will give you a nice summary of what Science is all about.

"The A-Z of Science"

Alien life that’s yet to be discovered,

Biology that’s been uncovered.

Chemistry that makes up our life and plants,

Dinosaurs that roamed without the invention of jackets.

Evolution that’s part of our history,

Fossils which may still remain a mystery.

Genetics that decide who we are,

Hubble that can see things from afar.

Infectious diseases that can affect your health,

Jupiter where it rains diamonds and wealth.

Kew gardens that is a giant seed bank,

Lunar eclipse that leaves the sky blank.

Moon which circle around the world,

NASA that fly in circling curls.

Oceans that have yet to be explored,

Periodic table… but wait there’s more.

Quite a lot of stuff science plays a part in,

Reproduction… wait let’s just skip that.

Satellites that detect where you’re going,

Theories that scientists try to keep rowing.

Unbelievably cool science is,

Very fun experiments that can end in a wizz.

Wormholes that can take you somewhere else,

X-Rays that can be as small as a mouse.

You yourself, are a piece of science,

Zazzled you probably are right now.

Big Garden Birdwatch with RSPB

Hello JRCS Scientists!

Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) focuses on protecting birds and wildlife from the rapid changes caused by humans. They focus on conservation, campaigning, restoring and protecting numerous areas in the UK.

If you don't have any plans for the weekend of 30-31 January 2016, go to RSPB website to request a free pack and take part in an event aiming at counting birds in your garden.

Saving the Day game

Hello JRCS Scientists!

Attention Y7 students! Today we give you an exciting opportunity. Together with the Transformation Trust we have for you a hidden object game. It mainly focuses on making lifestyle choices which will have an impact on the game's characters. Your decisions will affect their time, happiness, wealth and health. This term in Science Y7 students will be learning about a healthy diet. The game also touches on those aspects of life. As a bonus, you can will have a chance to win Amazon vouchers. Try this at home - magical ink

Hello JRCS Scientists,

Let's start 2016 with an experiment which will allow you to test diffusion (click here to read more about this process).

You will need:

• 2 glasses or jars
• hot and cold water
• blue ink
• vinegar

Method:

1. Fill one glass with cold water and the other with hot water.
2. Next, add 3 drops of ink into each glass and gently stir it.
3. You will observe that the cold water turned blue and the hot water stayed clear.
4. To make the hot water blue, add a teaspoon of vinegar and stir it.
